Candidates will grow in their ability to enhance\nGod\u2019s kingdom work in Christian schools or colleges and represent Christian\neducation perspectives in the broader society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Graduates should\nbe able to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Understand biblical perspectives, foundational theories, research\n     findings, cultural\/sociological dynamics, and alternative models for\n     educating diverse learners in contemporary Christian schools or colleges.<\/li><li>Understand biblical perspectives, theoretical approaches, research\n     findings, and alternative models of effective leadership and functioning\n     of organizations, and groups and individuals within organizations.<\/li><li>Understand the components and process of quantitative and qualitative\n     research with a view to solving educational questions\/problems.<\/li><li>All candidates must demonstrate satisfactory competence on all\n     outcomes.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This program of\nstudy consists of <strong><em>72 quarter units<\/em><\/strong> of specific and independent studies. The goal\nof this graduate program is to prepare teachers and administrators in the field\nof religious education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Degree Requirements<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Successfully complete a minimum of <strong><em>72 quarter units<\/em><\/strong> of coursework determined by the student and the student&#8217;s Doctoral Committee from the Doctor of Religious Education course list and any other coursework prescribed by the student&#8217;s Doctoral Committee with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>&nbsp;Successfully complete the Integrative Review<\/li><li>&nbsp;Successfully complete 60 quarter units of\nconcentrated course work. <\/li><li>&nbsp;Successfully complete 12 quarter units of the\nDissertation\/Research Project.<\/li><li>&nbsp;Successfully complete the degree requirements\nwithin the time limit.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Time Limit<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Doctor of Religious Education program must\nbe completed <strong><em>within 4 years<\/em><\/strong>\nfrom the time the student commenced the first course, as a regular student.\nThis time limit, at the option of the university, may be extended due to\nspecial extenuating circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Doctor of Religious\nEducation<\/strong><strong><em>&#8211;<\/em><\/strong><em> Suggested Core\nClasses<\/em><strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 601 Greek Exegesis in the Gospels (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Translation and exegesis of selected portions in\neach of the four Gospel accounts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 622 The Pastoral Epistles (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An exposition of 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus with\nemphasis on interpretive problems and relevance to contemporary church life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 812 God\u2019s Covenant (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A study of the major covenant in the Bible;\nconsideration of prophetic implications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CED 501 History of Christian Education (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brief history and importance of Christian education\nin the local church; organization of the church\u2019s educational program; planning\nand development; leadership recruitment and training; staff relationships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CED 503 Philosophy of Christian Education (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An examination of the biblical and theological\nfoundations of Christian education; development of a personal philosophy of\nChristian education which is both biblical and practical. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CED 505 Children\u2019s Ministries in the Local Church (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Christian educational ministry of the church is\npresented on the basis of a biblical perspective. Practical programmatic issues\nof curriculum and instruction such as Sunday school, vacation Bible school,\nadult Bible classes, youth ministry, curriculum planning, and teacher training\nare also addressed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CED 509 Field Education \u2013 Teaching Techniques (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Preparation and presentation of various styles of\nlessons such as: visual aid\u2019s drama, puppets, news reports, pantomime, quizzes,\npuzzles and games. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CED 511 Childhood Education (Children and Adults) (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Methods of ministry to handicapped or uniquely\ngifted people; professional advice provided; methods for reaching those in the\ncommunity with special needs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CHD 611 Theology of Ministry (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An introductory survey of biblical and theological\nprinciples of ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CHD 741 Pietism (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Early expressions of pietism in Roman Catholicism;\nProtestant pietistic movement; impact of pietism upon; modern evangelicalism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CHD 752 The Doctrine of Sanctification (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Biblical emphasis; historical preview; implications\nfor Christian counseling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ETH 533 Christian Ethics (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Structure and content of Christian Ethics; goal,\nmotive, and norm of the Christian life; analysis of ethical issues of\nauthority, life, sexuality, property and truthfulness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>EVG 742 Evangelicalism (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A study of aspects and trends of evangelicalism from\nthe civil war to the present. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PTR 722 Spiritual Discipline (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A course designed to assist the student of prayer\nand the use of spiritual disciplines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MIS 812 Theology of Missions (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Theology of missions and evangelism from a reformed\nperspective; principles of personal and corporate evangelism and cross-cultural\ncommunications of the Gospel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PTR 441 Supervised Concurrent Fried Education (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An opportunity for continuation of supervised\nexperience in ministry for the advanced student. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PTR 614 Guided Research in Christian Education (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Individualized programs of research in the history,\ntheology, and practice of Christian Education. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Doctor of Religious Education is designed to meet your professional development needs as a Christian education leader.
