Students who\nexpect to teach missions should normally pursue the Doctor of Philosophy\nprogram of study rather than the Doctor of Missiology program. Students are\ntypically not permitted to transfer from the Doctor of Missiology to the Doctor\nof Philosophy. program. Those who wish to do so must reapply for the Ph.D.\nprogram and meet all entrance requirements for that program. The purpose of the\nDoctor of Missiology program is to prepare persons for enhanced cross-cultural\nministry by means of advanced studies in Christian missions and related\ndisciplines. Students in the program take Doctor of Philosophy\nseminars in Christian missions and related subjects. The program culminates\nwith a field research dissertation that addresses an issue in the student\u2019s\nmissionary context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Degree Requirements<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Successfully complete a minimum of <strong><em>60 quarter units<\/em><\/strong> of coursework determined by the student and the student&#8217;s Doctoral Committee from the Doctor of Missiology course list and any other coursework prescribed by the student&#8217;s Doctoral Committee with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>&nbsp;Successfully complete the Integrative Review<\/li><li>&nbsp;Successfully complete 48 quarter units of\nconcentrated course work. <\/li><li>&nbsp;Successfully complete 12 quarter units of the\nDissertation\/Research Project.<\/li><li>&nbsp;Successfully complete the degree requirements\nwithin the time limit.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Time Limit<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Doctor of Missiology program must be completed\n<strong><em>within 4 years<\/em><\/strong> from the time\nthe student commenced the first course, as a regular student. This time limit,\nat the option of the university, may be extended due to special extenuating\ncircumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Doctor of\nMissiology<\/strong><strong><em>&#8211;<\/em><\/strong><em> Suggested Core\nClasses<\/em><strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 622 The Pastoral Epistles (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An exposition of 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus with\nemphasis on interpretive problems and relevance to contemporary church life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 801 Biblical Theology III (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overview of the covenantal structure of the whole of\nbiblical revelation centering on the concepts of kingdom, covenant and\nMediator. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CED 714 Teaching Techniques (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Preparation and presentation of various styles of\nlessons such as: visual aids, drama, puppets, news reports, pantomime, quizzes,\npuzzles, and games. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CHD 713 History of Christian Doctrines (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An historical survey of the development of selected\nmajor doctrine from the first century to the present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ETH 533 Christian Ethics (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Structure and content of Christian Ethics; goal,\nmotive, and norm of the Christian life; analysis of ethical issues of\nauthority, life, sexuality, property and truthfulness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>EVG 513 Basic Evangelism (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A study of evangelism theory and revivals. The\npractice examination of the theology of evangelism and discipleship with an\nemphasis on developing the skills of personal evangelism and equipping others\nto share their faith. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MIS 501 Mission of the Church (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A study of the church mission and evangelism\ntheological background bases on biblical foundation and its application since\nChristian church existed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MIS 503 Theology of Mission (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Theology of mission and evangelism from a reformed\nperspective; principles of personal and corporate evangelism and cross-cultural\ncommunications of the Gospel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MIS 507 Mission History of the Korean Church (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A study of the history of the Korean church since\nAmerican missionaries came and the growth and development of the Christian\nchurch in Korean peninsula. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MIS 801 Christian Missions (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Current development, trends, and opportunities in\nmission; missionary policies and programs in the local church. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MIS 809 Seminar (5 quarter units)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Missiological Integrations: Assist students to select and\/or design a\nstudy program which will serve their ministry development needs for mission\nservice. <\/li><li>Assist students to bring an integrative closure to their whole study\nprogram. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MIS 811 Ancient Near East History (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A survey of Samaritan Babylonian, Assyrian, China\nand Old Korea Christian mission history with special attention to the\nintersection of these cultures with the history of Israel. The theological\nsignificance of such relationship will be discussed as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PTR 420 God &amp; Mammon: Business and Professional Ethics (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A study of fundamental concepts and issues of\nbusiness and professional ethics in the light of Christian ethics, including\nsuch topics as scriptural and church attitudes toward business, theological\ntheories of economic justice, and corporations as moral agents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PTR 455 Classics of Christian Spirituality: Medieval to Modern (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A discussion of texts by spiritual writer from the\n12<sup>th<\/sup> century to the present day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PTR 680 Study Tour: Art and Spirituality (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> A tour in sites of one or more countries that show the historical and contemporary connections between artistic masterpieces and the spiritual life.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Doctor of Missiology is an advanced professional research degree in missiology designed especially for missionary practitioners.
