{"id":5884,"date":"2019-02-09T05:39:02","date_gmt":"2019-02-09T05:39:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/aculaca.com\/?page_id=5884"},"modified":"2019-02-10T00:22:50","modified_gmt":"2019-02-10T00:22:50","slug":"doctor-of-theology","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/aculaca.com\/index.php\/academics\/academic-program\/doctor-of-theology\/","title":{"rendered":"Doctor of Theology"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">The Doctor of\nTheology degree is an advanced academic degree intended to prepare students for\nprofessional careers in teaching, writing, and scholarship in academics\n(colleges, universities or seminaries), in publishing, religious organizations,\nsocial service organizations, or foundations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Doctor of\nTheology program emphasizes theological studies in the context of\n\u201c&#8221;secular\u201d&#8221; university research disciplines and is characterized by a\nseries of careful balances. Students are given considerable latitude to design\ntheir programs to meet specific needs and interests. This freedom is exercised\nunder the guidance of the student&#8217;s Doctor of Theology doctoral committee, who\nestablish examination and dissertation protocols which form the structure of\nthe student&#8217;s program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Doctor of\nTheology program&#8217;s freedom and flexibility encourages students to work on fresh\nissues and with emerging methodologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The School of\nTheology&#8217;s standard of scholarship represents a balance of committed study of\nthe theological disciplines and perspectives. The Doctor of Theology program\nstudents study Christian traditions either from within (as a member) or with a\ndeep respect for the beliefs and practices of the tradition. The Doctor of\nTheology program brings to bear critical perspectives (both internal and\nexternal) so that the scholastic conclusions will be thoughtful and articulate;\nthe scholar will have considered and addressed issues in such a way as to\nstrengthen the distinctive position and conclusions that he\/she wishes to\npresent to the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Degree Requirements<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Successfully complete a minimum of <strong><em>72 quarter units<\/em><\/strong> of coursework determined by the student and the student&#8217;s Doctoral Committee from the Doctor of Theology course list and any other coursework prescribed by the student&#8217;s Doctoral Committee with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Successfully complete the Integrative Review<\/li><li>Successfully complete 56 quarter units of concentrated course work. <\/li><li>Successfully complete 16 quarter units of the Dissertation\/Research\nProject.<\/li><li>Successfully complete the degree requirements within the time limit<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Time Limit<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Doctor of\nTheology program must be completed <strong><em>within\n5 years<\/em><\/strong> from the time the student commenced the first course, as a\nregular student, which applies to the degree requirements. This time limit, at\nthe option of the university, may be extended due to special extenuating circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Doctor of\nTheology<\/strong><strong><em>&#8211;<\/em><\/strong><em> Suggested Core\nClasses<\/em><strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 311 Biblical Chronology (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A study of the chronological questions related to\nsuch biblical area as Genesis, the Kingdom era, the Gospels, Acts and the\nApostles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 622 The Pastoral Epistles (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An exposition of 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus with\nemphasis on interpretive problems and relevance to contemporary church life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 811 Textual Criticism of the New Testament (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A brief history of textual criticism; the relative\nvalue of manuscripts; major theories of textual criticism; application of\ncritical methods to selected passages. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 822 Textual Criticism of the Old Testament (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The theory and practice of textual criticism with\nspecial attention the scrolls of Qumran and the Septuagint. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 831 The Life of Christ (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A study of Christ\u2019s earthly life using a harmony of\nthe Gospels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 835 Parables (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The principles of interpretation of Christ\u2019s\nparables, their use in contemporary preaching, and eschatological\nconsiderations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 900 Dispensationalism (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A study of the system of biblical interpretation known\nas dispensationalim; history; consideration of biblical support and alternative\nposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL923 Revivalism (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Biblical principles and examples of revival\u2019\nconsideration of revivals throughout Christian history with emphasis upon\nAmerican revivalism and evangelization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CHD 703 Pauline Theology (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A study of the major doctrines enunciated in Paul\u2019s\nepistles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CHD 741 Pietism (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Early expressions of pietism in Roman Catholicism;\nProtestant pietistic movement; impact of pietism upon; modern evangelicalism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CHD 752 The Doctrine of Sanctification (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Biblical emphasis; historical preview; implications\nfor Christian counseling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MIS 812 Theology of Missions (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Theology of missions and evangelism from a reformed\nperspective; principles of personal and corporate evangelism and cross-cultural\ncommunications of the Gospel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PTR 401 Theology and Sociology of the City (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An examination of the city in biblical and\ntheological perspective and an introduction to the sociology of urban systems,\nstructures, and conditions that create problems and\/or provide hope. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PTR 421 Theology and the Environment (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Explores the relationships between Christian\ntheology- with a special emphasis on Catholic social teaching- and concern for\nthe environment.
