{"id":5882,"date":"2019-02-09T05:35:11","date_gmt":"2019-02-09T05:35:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/aculaca.com\/?page_id=5882"},"modified":"2019-02-10T00:21:44","modified_gmt":"2019-02-10T00:21:44","slug":"master-of-christian-music","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/aculaca.com\/index.php\/academics\/academic-program\/master-of-christian-music\/","title":{"rendered":"Master of Christian Music"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">The Master of Christian Music is a professional\ngraduate degree for those who plan to serve in the music ministry of churches.\nThe course requirements are designed to help the student develop a maximum\nlevel of proficiency in performance, a comprehensive knowledge of church music,\nincluding music, theory, history, education, and an understanding of the\ntheological context of Christian music. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Graduates\nof Master of Christian Music are prepared for religious musical vocations such\nas choir directors, Cantors, organists, and chanters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Degree Requirements<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Successfully complete <strong><em>72 quarter units<\/em><\/strong> of the following coursework with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale:<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Successfully complete 36 quarter units of Christian Music concentrated core courses<\/li><li>Successfully complete 8 quarter units of the Thesis<\/li><li>Project.Successfully complete 28 quarter units of unrestricted electives or alternative electives.<\/li><li>Successfully complete the degree requirements within the time limit.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Time Limit<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Master in Christian Music program must be\ncompleted <strong><em>within 3 years<\/em><\/strong> from\nthe time the student commenced the first course, as a regular student. This\ntime limit, at the option of the university, may be extended due to special\nextenuating circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Master of Christian Music<\/strong><strong><em>&#8211;<\/em><\/strong><em> Suggested Core Classes<\/em><strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 140 Biblical Hermeneutics (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A\nPresentation of the general principles necessary of a sound interpretation of\nscripture and the special principles governing the interpretation of such\nsubjects as poetry prophecy, typology and parables. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 501 Biblical Theology (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overview\nof the covenantal structure of the whole of biblical revelation, centering on\nconcepts of kingdom, covenant and Mediator. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CHD 115 History of Christian Doctrines (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Summary\nof the biblical world and life view; the word of God, revelation, and\ninspirations; \u201cknowing\u201d and \u201cthinking\u201d as responses to God\u2019s word; the radical\ndifference between Christian and non-Christian thinking; nature and methods of\nTheology and apologetics; procedures for dealing with difficulties in the\nChristian faith. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ETH 501 Christian Ethics (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Structure\nand content of Christian Ethics; goal, motive and norm of the Christian life;\nanalysis of ethical issues of\nauthority, life, sexuality, property and truthfulness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MUS 501 Music in Contemporary Worship (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This\ncourse is a survey of the purpose and place of music in contemporary corporate\nworship. Worship practice in contemporary churches will be examined.\nTheological, historical, and cultural foundation for wide variety of worship\nstyles will be scrutinized with biblical standard of worship and the use of\nmusic in worship will be explored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MUS 503 Music Theory (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Development\nof proficiency in Western music conventional theory including notation, rhythm,\nmelody, scales, intervals chords and keyboard work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MUS 505 Church Music II (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A\nsurvey to develop a practical, biblical philosophical of church music\nmethodology and principles. Directed research in some area of church music\nrelated to the student\u2019s interest and needs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MUS 509 The Art of Spiritual Direction (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This\ncourse offers an introduction to the principles and practice of spiritual\ndirection through a combination of lecture\/discussion and applied work. It is\ntaken in conjunction with advanced practicum in spiritual direction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MUS 511 Seminar: Church Music (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This course is designed to equip the church musician with the specialized knowledge and administrative skills needed for church music ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MUS 513 Music Education (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A\nstudy of Biblical concepts and pattern of music and its theory. How to relate\nchurch, music and education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MUS 515 Hymnology (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A\nstudy and experience in related structure of music of hymnology and historical\nbackground. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MUS 517 Music History and Literature (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Advanced\nstudy of the growth of Western music from middle ages through contemporary\ncompared with Western literature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MUS 520 African American Consacred Music Styles (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This\ncourse is a study of the various facts of African-American sacred music style\nand the social history that helped to share them. Music literature will be\nplayed and the ministry of African-American sacred music will be examined. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MUS 530 Senior Recital (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Selection,\npractice, rehearsal and completion of a recital under faculty supervision.\nRequired of all music majors. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Master of Christian Music is a professional graduate degree for those who plan to serve in the music ministry of churches.
