{"id":5874,"date":"2019-02-09T00:24:12","date_gmt":"2019-02-09T00:24:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/aculaca.com\/?page_id=5874"},"modified":"2019-02-10T00:21:57","modified_gmt":"2019-02-10T00:21:57","slug":"master-of-divinity","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/aculaca.com\/index.php\/academics\/academic-program\/master-of-divinity\/","title":{"rendered":"Master of Divinity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">The Master of\nDivinity degree is a professional degree which will equip graduates with the\ncomprehensive graduate education necessary for becoming an ordained minister.\nUpon successful completion of the program, graduates are expected to attain the\nfollowing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A competent professional skill in preaching, teaching, church administration, worship, and counseling as an ordained minister.<\/li><li>A healthy balance among the biblical, historical, theological, and practical areas of study essential for developing organizational, managerial, and counseling skills as an ordained minister.<\/li><li>A thorough knowledge and understanding of the Bible.<\/li><li>Exposure to contemporary theological issues with the goal of equipping students to think independently and constructively in areas vital to Christian ministry.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Graduates\nof Master of Divinity will be prepared for\npastorship, priesthood, or professional ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Degree Requirements<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Successfully complete 120 quarter units of the following coursework with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>&nbsp;Successfully complete 68 quarter\nunits of common core courses<\/li><li>&nbsp;Successfully complete 44 quarter\nunits of unrestricted electives or alternative electives<\/li><li>&nbsp;Successfully complete 8 quarter\nunits of the thesis project. .<\/li><li>&nbsp;Successfully complete the degree\nrequirements within the time limit.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Time Limit<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Master of Divinity program must be completed <em><strong>within 5 years<\/strong><\/em> from the time the student commenced the first course, as a regular student, which applies to the degree requirements. This time limit, at the option of the university, may be extended due to special extenuating circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Master of Divinity<\/strong><strong><em> &#8211;<\/em><\/strong><em> <\/em><em>Suggested\nCore Classes<\/em><em><\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 105 Introduction to the Old Testament (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A summary study of the organization and content\nof the books with special attention given to the canon and problems of\nauthorship, dating and authenticity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 106 Introduction to the New Testament (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Study of manuscript evidence, canon, authorship,\ndating, organization and messages of the books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 113 Pentateuch (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A biblical and theological analysis of God\u2019s covenantal administration of his kingdom during the period covered <br>by the Pentateuch. Study of the emergence and formation of the Old Testament Canon. Survey of the content and higher criticism of the books of the Pentateuch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 120 New Testament History (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A\nstudy tracing the history of the English Bible from the ancient manuscripts to\nthe modern versions; comparisons and evaluation of modern versions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 140 Biblical Hermeneutics (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A\npresentation of the general principles necessary for a sound interpretation of\nscripture and the special principles governing the interpretation of such\nsubjects as poetry prophecy, typology and parables. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 152 Theological Bibliography (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An\nintroduction to tools for use in biblical and theological study including:\nencyclopedias, monographs, periodicals, bibliographical texts. Course includes\nemphasis upon hands-on experiences with computerized bibliographical and\nresearch tools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 603 New Testament Theology (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\ndevelopment of major New Testament doctrines and their bearing on the Christian\nlife. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BBL 605 Seminar I: New Testament (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">General\nintroduction and hermeneutics: historical cultural and religious background;\nthe language and translation of the New Testament; textual Criticism; the\ntheological reason of the New Testament; the New Testament book as can; seminar\nfor the principles and practice of New Testament exegesis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CSL 607 Biblical Counseling (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Biblical\nprinciples that will help identify and suggest solutions for problems\nencountered in ministry; counseling techniques. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>CED 601 Christian Education (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Educational\nministry of the church is presented on the basis of a biblical perspective.\nPractical programmatic issues of curriculum and instruction such as Sunday\nschool, vacation Bible School, adult Bible classes, youth ministry, curriculum\nplanning, and teacher training are also addressed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CHC 112 The Christian Mind (4 quarter units) <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Summary\nof the biblical world and life view; the Word of God, Revelation, ad\ninspiration; \u201cknowing\u201d and \u201cthinking\u201d and responses to God\u2019s Word; the radical\ndifference between Christian and non-Christian thinking; nature and methods of\ntheology and apologetics; procedures for dealing with difficulties in the\nChristian faith. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CHC 115 History of Twentieth Century Christianity: History of the Church in America<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\ngrowth and development of the Christian Church in America and the rise of the\ndenominations in this land. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CHC 117 Korean Church History (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A\nstudy of the growth and development of the Christian Church in Korea with\nspecial attention to current critical issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CHC 605 History of Israel (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Special\nintroduction to the historical books of the Old Testament, Exegesis of selected\npassages, development of biblical-theological themes, and study of the history\nof Israel. One hour per week devoted to Hebrew translation of relevant\nhistorical passage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CHC 607 History of the Christian Church (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A\nstudy of the developing Theology, ecclesiology, piety and worship of the\nChristian Church from the close of the apostolic age to 600 A.D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CHD 115 History of Christian Doctrines (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Summary\nof the biblical world and life view; the word of God, revelation, and\ninspirations; \u201cknowing\u201d and \u201cthinking\u201d as responses to God\u2019s word; the radical\ndifference between Christian and non-Christian thinking; nature and methods of\nTheology and apologetics; procedures for dealing with difficulties in the\nChristian faith. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ETH 201 Introduction to Christian Ethnics (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Structure and content of Christian ethics; goal,\nmotive, and norm of the Christian life; analysis of technical issues of authority,\nlife, sexuality, property and truthfulness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>EVG 601 Personal Evangelism (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\npractical examination of the theology of evangelism and discipleship with an\nemphasis on developing the skills of personal evangelism and equipping others\nto share their faith. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>EVG 603 Principles of Discipleship if Church Growth in the United States of America (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An\nexamination of the interpersonal relationships and character development as\napplied to the process of discipleship. A biblical study of church growth\nprinciples. An analysis of contemporary practices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>EVG 183 Evangelism Seminar (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This\nfield education reflection seminar will include the reformed theology of\nevangelism; an introduction to various biblically consistent methods for\npresenting the gospel of Jesus Christ through guided observation in the local\nchurch, presentations by resource persons with effective evangelistic\nministries, and evaluative discussion; an opportunity for participation in\naspects of the practice of evangelism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>LNG 101 Greek I (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Intensive\ninstruction in New Testament Greek with emphasis upon morphology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>LNG 102 Hebrew I (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A\nstudy of basic grammar and vocabulary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>LNG 103 Greek II (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\ncourse presumes the work of Greek I or equivalent knowledge of Greek.\nMorphology determined by a placement examination. Instruction introduces\nintermediate Greek syntax, vocabulary and some advanced Morphology through the\nreading of selected passages in the Greek New Testament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>LNG 104 Hebrew II (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Continuation\nof the grammar and vocabulary study from Hebrew I. Reading of Hebrew prose and\nintroduction to the Masoretic text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MIS 601 Missions: A Biblical Theology (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nBiblical basis and the contemporary practice of Christian missions worldwide,\nwith special attention to recent theorizing on cross-cultural communication and\nchurch development.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PHL 601 Christian Apologetics (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nnature, method and uses of Christian apologetics; a biblical response to some\nattacks on Christian faith. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PST 201 Ministry of the Word in Worship (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\ncourse emphasizes the centrality of the inspired scriptures in the worship life\nof the church. On the basis of a biblical theology of preaching, the role of\nthe pastor as a Minister of the Word will be examined, and initial training\ngiven in the art of preparing and delivering sermons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PST 601 Pastoral Theology (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pastoral\ntheology and general pastoral caf\u00e9: Biblical and professional standards of\nministerial conduct. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PST 603 Church Administration (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An\nexamination of the Biblical principles of financial stewardship, fund raising\nand budgeting. Discussion of financial bookkeeping procedures and the use of\nthe computer in the church. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PST 605 Church and Worship (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nbiblical foundation of worship; worship strategies; worship for special\noccasions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PST 611 Sermon Preparation (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A\nstudy of the techniques and fundamentals of sermon constructive and persuasive\ndelivery of expository sermons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PST 615 Seminar III: Worship and Liturgy (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A\nseminar considering worship theory and study of technique of Liturgy for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PST 631 Seminar II: Homiletics (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A\nseminar considering preaching methods of some outstanding pulpiteers with a\nview to applying their techniques to the student\u2019s ministry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>THL 601 Systematic Theology I (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nnature, method and rationale of Christian theology. Revelation, both general\nand special, inspiration, conocity, authority and illumination of the World of\ngod. The doctrine of God, including His existence, attributes, and Trinitarian\nnature. Includes discussion of both good and bad angels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>THL 602 Systematic Theology II (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Man,\nhis creation in the image of God, his nature, fall and the effect of sin upon\nthe race. The salvation of God, including the person and work of Christ. The\nsupplication of salvation to men including election, regeneration,\njustification, sanctification, and perseverance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>THL 603 Systematic Theology III (4 quarter units)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A\nstudy of the broad kingdom purpose of God and the future events relating to the\ndestiny of individuals and history including the second coming of Christ in its\nphases, the millennial reign of Christ, the resurrections, the judgments and\neternal state.
